Loki provides Danger Tree Assessors and Fallers under contract with BC Wildfire Service. If you wish to join us:

single resources must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Current accreditation with a Faller certification acceptable to the Board in BC (CAGC Level III, BC Faller, BCWS)

  • Demonstrable experience (in the form of a resume, logbook, references) in various timber types in BC

  • Previous experience working in a wildfire environment or other forest condition

  • current s-100 or s-100a

  • previous completion of s-185

  • 4x4 truck with model year newer than 2017

    or

  • which has a current provincial inspection decal

    and

  • has matching, E-rated tires

  • Own all tools and consumables according to BCWS requirements (see below)

Highly preferred qualifications:

  • Experience as a wildland firefighter

  • Certified Danger Tree Assessor (Wildfire module)

  • OFA Level 1 with Transport Endorsement

minimum equipment and supplies:

  • One CSA approved hard hat complete with one pair of helmet-mounting ear muffs - CSA Standard Z94.2, and face protective visor;

  • Two pair of work gloves;

  • One pair of CSA certified safety eyewear;

  • Personal First Aid equipment including 2 compress dressings;

  • Footwear appropriate for the work conditions, with coverage above the ankle;

  • Flame-Resistant faller pants with a minimum TCS of 3600; and

  • Flame resistant clothing that meets CAN/CGSB 155.22-2014, CAN/CGSB 155.22-97, or NFPA 1977 standards, and the following:

    1. The flame-resistant clothing may be in any colour other than red;

    2. High Visibility Apparel must be compliant for monitoring faller location, working around heavy equipment and helicopter suspended loads; and

    3. Clothing must have tags proving they meet one of these standards for monitoring inspections.

  • 1 handheld radio(s) programmed to BC Wildfire Service frequencies;

  • 1 vehicle mounted radio programmed to BC Wildfire Service frequencies;

  • 4 x 4 vehicle(s) to transport personnel, equipped with radio frequencies for resource road travel;

  • One Day Pack/Fire Line Pack;

  • Camping gear including sleeping bag, mattress, and tent;

  • Global Positioning System capable of uploading waypoints as a GPX file or phones with Avenza maps and QR code reader.

  • Two (2) CSA approved chainsaws with a minimum 70-cc displacement engine; bar suitable for the average diameter timber on the worksite (minimum 24-inch) with functioning chain brake, spark arrestors and full wrap handlebar;

  • Gas and oil containers with enough fuel and oil for the days’ work;

  • Necessary tools including axe appropriate to the timber, wedges, saw tools, files;

  • Adequate supplies to mark stumps in the field (if not using chainsaw);

  • Adequate supply of other field marking tools (i.e. 4 Orange and 2 Lime Green flagging tape, and/or Fluorescent Orange and Green spray paint); and

  • Two 4 (four) inch compress dressings as part of personal First Aid kit.

  • A complete set of the current “Wildland Fire Safety Module Field Cards (FS 502 B);

  • Adequate supply of the “Wildfire Danger Tree Assessment” documentation field cards (FS502 C and/or FS 502 D) or equivalent form for documenting assessments;

  • 4 rolls of Yellow/Black “No Work Zone” flagging tape;

  • 6 rolls of Orange/Black “Danger Tree” flagging tape;

  • Adequate supply of other field marking tools (i.e. 4 Orange and 2 Lime Green flagging tape, and/or Fluorescent Orange and Green spray paint).

As a matter of both courtesy and good planning, we ask that fallers accept placement on only one list per Fire Zone. (Zone Map Here).

Loki Tree has deployment offices for DTA/DTF resources in the following locations:

  • Kootenay Lake Fire Zone (N7)

  • Salmon Arm Fire Zone (K4)

We recognize that there are other contractors with a BCWS standing arrangement and we recognize that Fallers will want to maximize their chances of deployment.
